Most Indian business websites are missing at least 3 of these. Each missing item is a potential customer lost. Go through this checklist honestly and see how your site scores.
1. Mobile-first design
Over 75% of Indian internet users are on mobile. If your site looks broken, cramped, or slow on a phone, you're losing the majority of your visitors before they even read a word. Test it right now - open your site on your phone and check: does text overflow the screen? Are buttons easy to tap? Do images load properly?
A mobile-first website isn't just about shrinking your desktop site. It means designing for small screens first, then scaling up. Most DIY builders and older custom sites fail this test badly.
2. WhatsApp button
Indians prefer WhatsApp over contact forms, email, or phone calls for initial enquiries. A click-to-WhatsApp button prominently placed on every page converts visitors into conversations instantly - without requiring them to fill out a form or wait for a reply.
This single addition can double your inbound enquiries. We add it to every site we build at no extra charge. If your website doesn't have one, add it today.
3. Fast loading speed
53% of mobile users abandon a site that takes more than 3 seconds to load. In India, with variable 4G speeds across cities and rural areas, this is critical. A slow site loses customers before they even see what you offer.
Test your site free at pagespeed.web.dev. Anything below 70 on mobile needs fixing urgently. Common culprits: uncompressed images, too many plugins, bloated page builders like Elementor or Wix.
4. Clear pricing or starting price
"Contact us for pricing" kills conversions. Indian customers want to know if they can afford you before they reach out - it's a respect for their time. If you hide pricing, most visitors assume you're too expensive and leave.
Show at least a starting price ("from ₹X") or a clear price range. If pricing is genuinely custom, explain what factors affect it. Transparency builds trust and pre-qualifies your enquiries - you'll spend less time on calls that go nowhere.
5. Google Maps embed
For any physical business - clinic, restaurant, shop, gym - an embedded Google Map on your contact page is essential. It builds immediate trust (you're a real, findable business) and makes navigation effortless for customers.
Bonus: a properly configured Google Maps embed with local schema markup also helps your Google Business Profile ranking - which means more visibility in "near me" searches.
6. Real photos - not stock photos
Stock photos of smiling foreigners in suits destroy trust for Indian customers. They signal inauthenticity immediately. Use real photos of your space, your team, your actual work - even photos taken on a decent smartphone are infinitely better than generic stock imagery.
For a dental clinic: photos of your actual clinic, your equipment, your team. For a restaurant: photos of your actual dishes, your actual space. For a coaching institute: your actual classroom, your actual students (with permission). Authenticity converts.
7. Customer testimonials
Indians rely heavily on word-of-mouth and social proof before making a purchase decision. Your website needs at least 3 genuine testimonials with the customer's name, city, and what they specifically valued.
Even better: embed your Google Reviews directly on the page. A 4.8-star rating with 50+ reviews visible on your website is the most powerful trust signal you can have. It shows potential customers that real people in their city have had good experiences.
8. Clear call to action on every page
Every page - not just your homepage - should tell the visitor exactly what to do next. "Call now," "Book a consultation," "WhatsApp us," "Fill the enquiry form." Don't make them guess or hunt for the next step.
The call to action should be above the fold (visible without scrolling) on mobile, in a colour that stands out, with specific action-oriented text. "Get a free quote" converts better than "Contact us." "Book your seat" converts better than "Learn more."
9. SSL certificate (https://)
If your site shows "Not Secure" in the browser address bar, customers leave immediately. It signals that your site is unsafe and outdated. SSL certificates are free today through Let's Encrypt - there is genuinely no excuse for a business site without one.
Google also penalises non-HTTPS sites in search rankings. So not having SSL hurts you both with customers and with Google. Any decent hosting provider will set this up automatically.
10. Local SEO - city + service in page title
Your page title (the text in the browser tab and Google search results) should include your specific service and your city. "Best Dental Clinic in Pune | Dr. Mehta" ranks on Google. "Welcome to our website" does not.
This applies to every page, not just the homepage. Your services page should mention the city. Your about page should mention the city. "Physiotherapy clinic in Andheri" brings in more targeted traffic than "Our services." This single change can bring consistent free organic traffic every month.
